Call for Abstracts: Understanding Value 2013

Call for Abstracts: Understanding Value 2013
A Graduate Conference on Value
University of Sheffield
17th-19th July, 2013

Keynote speakers:
Professor Jessica Brown, University of St. Andrews
Professor Gregory Currie, University of Nottingham
Professor Robert Stern, University of Sheffield

Following the great success of the first Understanding Value conference, we once again invite the submission of abstracts for Sheffield University’s second graduate conference on the theme of value.  A great many areas of philosophy are concerned with questions about value.  From the areas traditionally conceived as a part of ‘value theory’ – ethics, meta-ethics, aesthetics, social and political philosophy – to epistemology, metaphysics and philosophy of language, mind and psychology, there is a need to understand what value is, what it does and how we can best understand it.  For this reason we invite submissions of abstracts of 500-1000 words from graduate students with an interest in value, broadly construed.  We welcome papers taking an analytic, continental, historical or cross-disciplinary approach to any of the many problems surrounding value, from graduate students working in any area of philosophy.

We welcome papers from graduate students, or those who have submitted a PhD in the last two years. All submissions should be emailed to valueconference@shef.ac.uk by 1st February 2013.

For more information, and for details of last year’s conference, please visit http://valueconference.blogspot.co.uk/

Details of available funding and registration details will follow in the coming months.
